Validation and verification

Verification and Validation (V&V) activities are present from system planning to system acceptance aiming to verify and validate that the intended system functionality is correct.

Verification ensures that the software product complies with all necessary requirements through all phases of the product life-cycle. It is accomplished by analysis, inspection and formal evaluations of intermediate and final deliverables. The activities to be implemented should be selected according to criticality analysis, increasing the activity’s value for money.

Validation demonstrates that the systems/software accomplishes its intended purpose. It is achieved by testing the product in real or simulated environments. The purpose of these validation activities is to assess error-handling behaviors, safety and security issues, and areas where a failure might cause undesirable effects.
